Out of the Past rolls down the highway like an old Buick with a new engine. Chrome catching the dawn. Bass humming under the hood. The Grooveblaster at the wheel, digging through yesterday for anything that still has a pulse. Philly soul on one side. Funky breaks on the other. Bebop in the backseat, dub smoking by the window.
Anji Bee drifts into “Put Some Music On” like somebody you knew once in another city. Yasi Baby lays that lazy groove across “Lady Groove.” Suddenly you’re floating through streets you don’t remember. Then “Call Northside 777” blows the horn and wakes everybody up. “Stretch Out and Relax” slows the machine again. Berlin at night. Neon rain. Nobody in a hurry. This is music made by a record-digger who knows the past isn’t dead. Not if somebody keeps cutting it into new shapes. Now and then the velvet gets too thick. The trip threatens to become lounge music for ghosts. Then another beat comes around the corner. Another bass line. Another beautiful old sound dragged into the present and sent back into the night.
